Week 2 Street FA Report

Updated: September 13th 2022

Welcome back to year five (!) of the street FA report. Each week we will recommend a group of players that are owned in less than 75% of RSO leagues that should be rostered. Depending on roster and league sizes not all of these players may be available. For that, we will offer one (1) player that is owned in <25% of leagues as our Sleeper add.

Add of the Week

Jeff Wilson, RB, SF (Owned 60%)

Week 1: 9 Car/22 yards, 2 Rec/8 yards

As with every week 1 there is always one big ticket free agent, usually at running back, that everyone will put in most of their remaining cap space to acquire. This usually occurs because of a big injury to a starter, a mutled backfield becoming more transparent after pre-season or a player having a big breakout week 1. Jeff Wilson is the beneficiary of what is expected to be at least a two (2) month absence from Elijah Mitchell in San Francisco. The 49ers’ backfield is well known as one that fantasy managers want to have a piece of and with Mitchell out of commission, Trey Sermon recently released, and rookie Tyrion Davis-Price inactive for week 1 this leaves Wilson as the de facto number one option in San Francisco. Like Cordarrelle Patterson last year, Wilson could become a staple for many team’s lineups if his expected role continues for half of the remaining season.

Suggested Bid: $7-10,000,000

RB Adds

Dontrell Hilliard, RB, TEN (Owned 34%)

Week 1: 2 Car/8 yards, 3 Rec/61 yards, 2 TD

Realistically will I be surprised when Hilliard plays less than 10 snaps and sees two (2) touches in week 2? No. But there is a chance that Mike Vrabel is looking to offload some of Derrick Henry’s usage so that they can maintain his health throughout a 17-game season. If nothing else Hilliard should see more passing down snaps which increases his value in PPR leagues where a handful of checkdown passes could lead to a steady 3-5 targets per week. Scoring two (2) touchdowns like in week 1 is definitely above the ceiling for what is to be expected from Hilliard, but if Henry was to be sidelined at any point this season, Hilliard would be a great stash to have.

Suggested Bid: $1,000,000

Jerick McKinnon, RB, KC (Owned 37.5%)

Week 1: 4 Car/22 yards, 3 Rec/27 yards

There was a lot of discussion this pre-season about the emergence of Isiah Pacheco and his threat to Clyde Edwards-Helaire in Kansas City. While CEH scored his two (2) touchdowns and Pacheco came in and scored his own in cleanup duties, Jerick McKinnon actually co-led with CEH for total offensive snap shares at 39 percent. Ownership of all three (3) running backs are a must at this point until more is known about how these usages will translate into games where KC is not running away from the start. If you are missing out on the other two (2) runners, or want to take a 50/50 handcuff to your other shares, add McKinnon before week 2 and see where their game plan goes.

Suggested Bid: $500,000

WR Add

Kyle Philips, WR, TEN (Owned 36%)

Week 1: 6 Rec/66 yards

There was a lot of buzz about rookie wide receivers heading into the 2022 season but after week 1 the biggest rookie surprise performance is Kyle Philips. A fifth-round selection, Philips has shot up the depth charts to be the Titans primary slot receiver and in week 1 actually saw more snaps (31) than first-round selection Treylon Burks (24). He has had nine (9) targets to lead the Titans. All this to say that Philips was considered a Hunter Renfrew clone that could be a long term stash for 2023 and beyond. It appears that his development has accelerated even past anyone’s best estimates and he should be rostered as a suitable PPR flex option going forward.

Suggested Bid: $1,500,000

TE Add

Tyler Conklin, TE, NYJ (Owned 23%)

Week 1: 4 Rec/14 yards, 1 TD

Tight end usage is usually the key to finding sustained success at the position and while some may be quick to jump on OJ Howard with his two (2) touchdowns in week 1, he only played on 12 snaps behind both Brevin Jordan (42) and Pharoh Brown (46). Instead, look to someone like Tyler Conklin who played on 92 percent of the Jets’ offensive snaps and saw seven (7) targets. Honorable mention goes to Taysom Hill who has now been designated as a tight end in default RSO leagues meaning that if you want to get tricky with the position he could offer boom/bust weeks that he is featured in multiple positions on the field.

Suggested Bid: $500,000

Sleeper Add (<25%)

Olamide Zaccheaus, WR, ATL (Owned 10%)

Week 1: 4 Rec/49 yards

Rightfully so, the only pieces of the Atlanta Falcons offense that people wanted to roster in 2022 was Kyle Pitts and Drake London. There was not a lot of confidence that much else would be able to have consistent fantasy production to afford holding a bench spot for. While he may not be a viable starter for many leagues there is likely no option with under 25 percent ownership that has a better expected target opportunity than Olamide Zaccheaus. He will hover around the WR5/6 range for most weeks but in deeper leagues he is worth a stash to use during the heavy bye weeks.

Suggested Bid: $500,000

Week 9 Street FA Report

Updated: October 30th 2019

Each week we will recommend a group of players that are owned in less than 50% of RSO league that should be rostered. Depending on roster and league sizes not all of these players may be available. For that, we will offer 1 player that is owned in <10% of leagues as our Sleeper add.

Add of the Week

Josh Reynolds, WR – LAR (Owned 27%)

Week 8: 1 Car/-1 yard, 3 Rec/73 yards, 1 TD

It is unknown the extent of Brandin Cooks’ injury but having his second head injury this season is not a good sign. He is going to see a specialist so in the meantime Josh Reynolds steps into the WR3 role in what is still an above-average passing offense. He had eight (8) targets last week but only made three (3) catches and was overshadowed by Cooper Kupp’s monster game. We know that Reynolds had a role when he was the WR3 last year with Kupp out the second half of the season so Reynolds is a savvy add while the Rams are on their bye week in case Cooks is out for a prolonged absence. He would likely hold WR4 value in each game Cooks misses.

Suggested Bid: $5,000,000

RB Add

Jeff Wilson Jr, RB – SF (Owned 33%)

Week 8: 2 Car/6 yards

If you are in desperate need of an RB this week quickly grab Jeff Wilson before they play on Thursday night. Behind Tevin Coleman, the 49ers are banged up with only a couple days of practice to prove their health. Wilson may be the last man standing when all is said and done. Kyle Shanahan wants to rotate in multiple backs throughout the game and Wilson was used earlier in the season as the primary goal-line back when Coleman was out himself. We will see how the rotation goes on Thursday but as it goes for free agents backs available this week Jeff Wilson probably has the safest floor and highest touchdown upside in week 9.

Suggested Bid: $1,000,000

WR Add

Alex Erickson, WR – CIN (Owned 17%)

Week 8: 6 Rec/97 yards

Another WR likely to remain a free agent because of his bye week, Alex Erickson has had three solid games averaging 9 targets, 6 receptions, and 94 yards. The Bengals will continue to pass the ball heavily for the rest of the season so the pass attempts will be there. We are also waiting to see when A.J. Green will return and how effective he will be when he does. On top of all this, it is being reported Andy Dalton will be benched allowing backup Ryan Finley to start for at least week 10. Often times backup receivers and backup quarterback have a rapport from reps in training camp and preseason as the second-team offense so there may be more familiarity between Erickson and Finley than with other receivers at this point in time. We will see what the new Bengals offense looks like when they return from their bye but Erickson is a strong second half candidate if the Bengals are trying to see what assets they have moving forward.

Suggested Bid: $3,000,000

TE Add

Jonnu Smith, TE – TEN (Owned 33%)

Week 8: 6 Rec/78 yards, 1 TD

Jonnu Smith had been a hot tight end sleeper the last two seasons but he has been a dud for the most part. The three-year learning curve for tight ends might be a real thing however as Smith looked strong the last two weeks while Delaine Walker nurses his own injuries. Ryan Tannehill has also brought some rejuvenation to a very stagnant passing offense for Tennessee so that gives Titans’ pass catchers another boost moving forward. For as long as Delaine Walker is out Jonnu Smith is a borderline TE1 most weeks, especially with some big TEs on byes over the next two weeks.

Suggested Bid: $4,000,000

Sleeper Add (<10%)

Russell Gage, WR – ATL (Owned 3%)

Week 8: 7 Rec/58 yards

After Emmanuel Sanders was traded away everyone was trying to figure out which receiver would be the next man up for fantasy points in Denver. It was never discussed however who was going to step up once Mohammed Sanu was shipped out of Atlanta. We got our answer in week 8 with second-year receiver Russell Gage who was second on the team with nine (9) targets. It remains to be seen whether this was another product of a backup quarterback being more comfortable throwing to a player he had been working with during the offseason or if Gage will be a reliable option once Matt Ryan returns in week 10. Either way Gage is a player that you can stash on your practice squad and activate if he has another good game in week 10 against the Saints.

Suggested Bid: $350,000

Week 4 Street FA Report

Updated: September 29th 2019

Each week we will recommend a group of players that are owned in less than 50% of RSO league that should be rostered. Depending on roster and league sizes not all of these players may be available. For that, we will offer 1 player that is owned in <10% of leagues as our Sleeper add.

Add of the Week

Taylor Gabriel, WR – CHI (Owned 44%)

Week 3: 6 Rec/75 yards, 3 TDs

Taylor Gabriel had himself a game on Monday night scoring three touchdowns in the first half! Unfortunately, he left the game early with a concussion that he is still dealing with at the mid-week point. It is unclear if he will be available for an encore against the Vikings this Sunday. Regardless, only Allen Robinson (27 targets), Tarik Cohen (19), and Gabriel (14) are being featured in the Bears’ offense through three weeks, with Gabriel being the only one with a touchdown reception thus far.  When he is back on the playing field he is at least rosterable in all but the shallowest of leagues and can be a flex option in deep starting lineups.

Suggested Bid: $2,000,000

QB Add

Gardner Minshew, QB – JAX (Owned 50%)

Week 3: 20 for 30, 204 Pass yards, 2 TDs, 4 Car/18 yards

Looking back at last year’s Week 3 Street Free Agent Report it was the chest protruding, big baller swagger of Ryan Fitzpatrick that was being recommended as a must-add quarterback. Fast forward to this year and history is repeating itself with the latest cult hero, rookie Gardner Minshew, who is the quarterback to own. After taking over for Nick Foles in Week 1, Minshew has looked at worst serviceable to fantasy owners that have been ravaged by early-season injuries. He is consistently putting up 17 points per game, good enough for 17th at his position. It will be interesting to see if the Jaguars return to Nick Foles when he becomes healthy again later in the season based on the success of Minshew as well as the fan base loving every minute he’s in the spotlight. With Reality Sports Online “resign” feature Minshew is also an interesting character to see where his future value hits after next week. Especially in Superflex leagues he could be a sneaky resign candidate for many teams who usually stream the position.

Suggested Bid: $2,000,000

RB Add

Jeff Wilson Jr, RB – SF (Owned 36%)

Week 3: 8 Car/18 yards, 2 TDs

I recommended Raheem Mostert two weeks ago as a 49er running back to add and I’m going back again for another, Jeff Wilson Jr. Wilson has four touchdowns in the last two games on only 18 carries putting him in a Mike Tolbert, Matt Asiata-like touchdown vulture role. We don’t yet know where Wilson will fit once Tevin Coleman returns after the team’s bye this week but he’s at least worth a stash for now. There are suggestions that he may be waived to try and put on the team’s practice squad but it is likely another team would sign him before he ever got there. This might actually be the best-case scenario for those who invest in Wilson as a team would likely have a role for him if they were to sign him. For now we can just monitor what his situation is and adjust our expectations accordingly.

Suggested Bid: $500,000

WR Add

Paul Richardson, WR – WAS (Owned 44%)

Week 3: 8 Rec/83 yards, 1 TD

“Scary” Terry McLaurin (F1) has been the darling of the fantasy community and is looking like the most valuable piece of this woeful Washington offense for 2019 and beyond. If the team struggles as much as it did on Monday night though, another name to watch is Paul Richardson. The sixth-year receiver has been an afterthought for most of his Washington career after being a deep sleeper candidate last year but the team is likely to be down in many more games this season so the passing offense will be featured plenty. The team has featured three (3) receivers on 56 percent of their plays through three weeks so regardless of whether it’s Richardson or Trey Quinn sharing the WR2 role both should continue to see their share of targets behind Terry McLaurin and scatback Chris Thompson.

Suggested Bid: $500,000

TE Add

Ben Watson, TE – NE (Owned 13%)

Week 3: N/A

Ben Watson is suspended for another week before he can make his Patriots return but that shouldn’t stop those with tight end problems from adding him this week. The Patriots have a long history of featuring their tight ends and Tom Brady also loves to feature players that he has a rapport with; Watson was with the Patriots from 2004-09. He will never replace Rob Gronkowski’s production both as a pass-catcher or a blocker but similar to Jason Witten with the Cowboys and Greg Olsen with the Panthers there is something about having a veteran tight end who knows how to read defenses and get open for their quarterback. Of course, neither of those teams have a Swiss army knife quite like Julian Edelman but we have seen both Edelman and a New England tight end be fantasy relevant at the same time. It is pure speculation at this point to assume any fantasy relevancy for Watson but he could be the next hot waiver add in week six if he has a big game upon returning. Get ahead of the curve now and stash him.

Suggested Bid: $500,000

Sleeper Add (<10%)

Auden Tate, WR – CIN (Owned 5%)

Week 3: 6 Rec/88 yards

A surprising change last week to the Bengals’ offense was Auden Tate being on the field for 89 percent of the plays in week 3 against the Buffalo. This came at the apparent benching of Damion Willis who was said to be the replacement outside receiver during A.J. Green’s absence coming out of preseason. The Bengals have run three-receiver sets on 68 percent (5th most) which is likely a contributor to his high usage rate which is also a good indicator of things moving forward in the season.  We don’t yet know when Green will be returning or how effective he will be when he does so Tate could continue to see an uptick in snaps played. We do know that Tate has the ability at 6’5” to be a better red zone and jump-ball threat than either Tyler Boyd (6’1”) or John Ross (5’11”). If he can continue to see the field at the rate he saw last week and the Bengals can get more scoring opportunities Tate may become a sleeper each week with touchdown upside.

Suggested Bid: $500,000

Week 14 Street FA Report – Playoff Edition

Updated: December 4th 2018

Each week we will recommend a group of players that are owned in less than 50% of RSO league that should be rostered. Depending on roster and league sizes not all of these players may be available. For that, we will offer 1 player that is owned in <10% of leagues as our Sleeper add.

Add of the Week

Jaylen Samuels, RB – PIT (Owned 47%)

Week 13: 2 Car/5 yards, 3 Rec/20 yards, 1 TD

I said last week to add you stud RB handcuffs and on cue, both Kareem Hunt and James Conner are now shelved for many playoff-bound teams. In the case of James Conner and the Pittsburgh Steelers, it will be Jaylen Samuels who will be stepping into the starting role for at least week 14. Samuels hasn’t shown much in the running game yet (12 carries for 31 yards) but he has been more effective as a receiver with two (2) receiving touchdowns. Therefore, it is likely for veteran Stevan Ridley to have a role in Conner’s absence as well. He fits a more traditional ground game runner to use around the goal line. The Steelers have been passing 67% this season and a league-high 78% the last three weeks so it will be interesting to see how the offense functions without its two best runners. Still, if you have made it this far with RB problems this may be your saving grace for the final three weeks. At a minimum, you should be putting in a high bid to keep poach from Samuels from other contenders.

Suggested Bid: 95% remaining cap space

RB Add

Jeff Wilson, RB – SF (Owned 3%)

Week 13: 15 Car/61 yards, 8 Rec/73 yards

If you lose out on the sweepstakes to grab the obvious Jaylen Samuels make sure to put in a second bid for 49ers backup Jeff Wilson. Similarly to Conner’s situation, it isn’t clear yet whether Matt Breida will only be absent for one week or if his ankle injury will force him to miss multiple games. Either way, a starter is available and needs to be added. The schedule isn’t kind to the 49ers for the playoffs (Denver, Seattle, and Chicago) but Wilson proved himself valuable in the passing game with eight (8) receptions in garbage time last week. With only fullback Kyle Juszczyk as competition for touches, there should be a safe floor to Wilson in PPR leagues. Wilson may be a nice consolation prize for those with less cap available.

Suggested Bid: 60% remaining cap space

WR Adds

Bruce Ellington, WR – DET (Owned 15.5%)

Week 13: 7 Rec/35 yards

Thank you to everyone who finally got Adam Humphries’ ownership above the 50% threshold finally. Now, we need to give Bruce Ellington the same treatment this week. Ellington has been targeted 26 times in the last three (3) games which has given him a tremendously safe floor in PPR leagues despite his low yard total. The Lions have a slightly easier schedule throughout the playoffs (Arizona, Buffalo, and Minnesota) in which the number one corner will continue to be matched up against Kenny Golladay. The Lions are ninth in the pass-run ratio at 63% so there shouldn’t be much change in their game plan and Ellington will continue to receive a large number of targets. Hopefully, he is able to increase his yard totals and maybe sprinkle in a touchdown or two. That would push Ellington in the WR3 category.

Suggested Bid: $2,000,000 or 40% remaining cap space

Chris Conley, WR – KC (Owned 27%)

Week 13: 3 Rec/25 yards, 1 TD

Another recommendation from week 12 Chris Conley has shown he is valuable with Sammy Watkins out of the lineup. Conley actually out targeted Tyreek Hill last week seven (7) to six (6) and scored his third touchdown in the last two games. The Chiefs have a tough matchup this week against the Ravens who have been notorious for killing fantasy production of opposing offenses, just as Julio Jones last week. If you can make it through this week though, Conley may be a sneaky flex play for the final two weeks if Watkins remains out.

Suggested Bid: $1,000,000 or 20% remaining cap space

TE Add

Ian Thomas, TE – CAR (Owned 24%)

Week 13: 5 Rec/20 yards

Another injury has finally put an end to Greg Olsen’s season and therefore another starting tight end is lost for the season. It will be difficult to find startable options this late in the season but Ian Thomas has about as good as any for being added to a team’s TE rotation. The target shares have become monopolized by Christian McCaffrey in Carolina but we know that Cam Newton likes to involve the TE if he is comfortable with him. Thomas had five (5) receptions after Olsen left the game suggesting that Newton at least won’t be ignoring the position, unlike last year when Olsen was out.

Suggested Bid: $1,000,000 or 20% remaining cap space

Sleeper Add (<10%)

Auden Tate, WR – CIN (Owned 8.4%)

Week 13: N/A

This is a complete shot in the dark but with A.J. Green out in week 12 Auden Tate surprisingly had seven (7) targets but was a surprise inactive last week with Green back. With Green now out for the rest of the season, Tate should be activated again and have a chance to be the number two behind Tyler Boyd. His 6’5” frame should also give Tate opportunities to see red zone targets. With backup QB Jeff Driskel being the starting QB now this may give Tate an inside track to early and important targets. We often see backups thrust into starting roles favor their practice squad and backup receivers due to their familiarities.

Suggested Bid: $500,000
